Для меня это новость. Я слышал о том, что в океане плавает множество пластикового мусора, но я не представлял масштабы этого явления.
Примерно 100 млн тонн плавучего хлама только на севере Тихого Океана - это по весу ежегодный урожай зерновых в Бразилии. Может, кто-то точнее знает общую массу пластмассовых отходов в океане? Мне кажется число 100 млн тонн сомнительной оценкой, в литературе не нашел обоснования.
Как бы то ни было, но между Гаваями и побережьем Калифорнии плавает "пластиковое мусорное пятно", которое в три раза больше по площади, чем Новосибирская область. Не хило, правда?
Если даже масса не такая большая, то площадь распространения впечатляет. Рыбки путают планктон и кусочки пластика - так по пищевой цепочке пластик попадает к нам на стол снова (http://www.algalita.org/uploads/PlasticingestionbyplanktivorousfishesintheNorthPacificCentralGyre-1.pdf).
Главный вопрос - что делать? Ведь фильтровать океаны никто не будет и исправить то, что сотворено за последние 50 лет производства пакетов и бутылок практически невозможно. Что можно сделать - это не мусорить и мыть посуду, вместо того чтобы пользоваться пластиковой.
