«Вывод советских войск из Афганистана был завершен 15 февраля 1989 года. Эта дата сейчас отмечается в России как День воинов-интренационалистов, участвовавших в урегулировании военных конфликтов на территории ближнего и дальнего зарубежья. В нынешнем году исполняется 25 лет со дня вывода контингента советских войск из Афганистана. Всего за период с 25 декабря 1979 года по 15 февраля 1989 года в войсках на территории Афганистана (Демократическая Республика Афганистан – ДРА, Республика Афганистан с 1987 года) прошло военную службу 620 тыс. военнослужащих, из них в соединениях и частях Советской Армии – 525 тыс., в пограничных и других подразделениях КГБ СССР – 90 тыс., во внутренних войсках МВД СССР – 5 тыс. человек. Кроме того, на должностях рабочих и служащих в советских войсках в этот период находилась 21 тыс. человек. Ежегодная списочная численность советских войск в составе ограниченного контингента составляла от 80 до 104 тыс. военнослужащих и 5-7 тыс. рабочих и служащих (вольнонаемных). По уточненным данным, всего в войне Советская Армия потеряла 14 тыс. 427 человек, КГБ – 576 человек, МВД – 28 человек погибшими и пропавшими без вести. Ранено, контужено, травмировано – более 53 тыс. человек. Точное число погибших в войне афганцев неизвестно. Имеющиеся оценки колеблются от 1 до 2 млн. человек». Семёнов Юрий Николаевич – мой родной дядя, брат мамы – родился 24 июня 1964 года в поселке Новый городок Торжокского района Калининской области. Образование среднее, получено в Великооктябрьской школе Фировского района. Основная гражданская специальность – токарь. С 1980 года по 1983 год учеба в ПТУ пос. Красномайского. 5 мая 1983 года призван в ряды Советской армии. Окончил 182 Военную школу поваров Краснознамённого Туркестанского Военного округа. С 9 ноября 1983 года по 5 мая 1985 года проходил службу в в/ч п.п. 46357. Президиумом верховного совета СССР за мужество и воинскую доблесть, проявленные при выполнении интернационального долга в республике Афганистан, Указом от 28 декабря 1988 года награждён Грамотой Президиума Верховного Совета СССР. В соответствии с указом Президента Республики Афганистан от 15 мая 1988 года награжден медалью «Воину-интернационалисту от благодарного афганского народа». В соответствии с Указом Президиума Верховного Совета СССР от 28 января 1988 года награжден юбилейной медалью «70 лет Вооруженных сил СССР». После службы в Советской армии вернулся в поселок Великооктябрьский и работал на стеклозаводе «Великий Октябрь». Умер 27 сентября 2006 года.
