В отличие от Брехта, поднимавшего в «Жизни Галилея» прежде всего этические вопросы ответственности ученого, конформизма и предательства своего дела, Амосова больше интересуют научные прозрения знаменитого итальянца. Он рассказывает об изобретении телескопа, открытии спутников Юпитера и борьбе за гелиоцентричную модель вселенной, начатую Коперником.
Юхананов сознательно пригласил не артиста, который мог бы намного убедительнее сыграть терзания и сомнения главного героя, а настоящего ученого, горящего теми же идеями просвещения и неуемным любопытством к устройству мира – то есть современную проекцию Галилея. И этого лектора-энтузиаста в качестве реди-мейд персонажа он помещает внутрь собственного режиссерского высказывания, где акценты расставлены совсем иначе.
Если для ученого мир – это лаборатория, поле для исследований, и все его загадки должны быть рано или поздно раскрыты, то для Юхананова вселенная полна тайн, которые трогать не нужно, а наоборот, лучше напустить побольше тумана и дыма. Юхананов на наших глазах создает новый миф и делает из вполне себе здравомыслящего Галилея мученика за науку, почти святого – такого же, как первые христиане, принимавшие смерть за веру.

Unlike Brecht, who raised in the Life of Galileo primarily ethical issues of the scientist’s responsibility, conformism and betrayal of his work, Amosov is more interested in the scientific insights of the famous Italian. He talks about the invention of the telescope, the discovery of the moons of Jupiter and the struggle for the heliocentric model of the universe begun by Copernicus.
Yukhananov deliberately invited not an artist who could much more convincingly play the torments and doubts of the protagonist, but a real scientist, burning with the same ideas of enlightenment and indefatigable curiosity for the structure of the world - that is, a modern projection of Galileo. And he places this lecturer-enthusiast as a readymade character inside his own directorial statement, where the emphasis is placed completely differently.
If for a scientist the world is a laboratory, a field for research, and all its riddles must be solved sooner or later, then for Yukhananov the universe is full of secrets that need not be touched, but rather, it is better to let out more fog and smoke. Yukhananov, before our very eyes, creates a new myth and makes himself a perfectly sane Galileo a martyr for science, almost a saint - the same as the first Christians who took death for faith.
