Для венгров до сих пор «Преступление и наказание» – главный иностранный роман, основное произведение зарубежной литературы. Нам близки те вопросы, которые в романе подняты, и те ответы, которые здесь очень мощно и очень однозначно дает Достоевский. Это вечные вопросы существования, предназначения человека. О свободе и о вере в первую очередь. Утрата веры… Я не знаю, насколько для России это актуально. На Западе это актуальнейшая проблема. Мир потихоньку стал атеистом и от этого не сделался счастливым, не нашел утешающих ответов на самые существенные вопросы. У Достоевского это так тонко написано, так многосторонне раскрыто, столько ассоциаций, разветвлений, тем, что так или иначе роман касается фактически всего сущностного в человеческой жизни. Его можно читать всю жизнь, и каждый раз он будет звучать немного иначе. Я обязательно хочу поставить «Преступление и наказание» и в Венгрии. Я считаю, что это произведение должно быть в репертуаре. Потому что это ответ театра на все те вопросы, которые нас окружают. Правильный ответ.

For the Hungarians, “Crime and Punishment” is still the main foreign novel, the main work of foreign literature. We are close to those questions that were raised in the novel, and those answers that are very powerful and very unequivocally given here by Dostoevsky. These are eternal questions of the existence, destiny of man. On freedom and faith in the first place. The loss of faith ... I do not know how relevant this is for Russia. In the West, this is an urgent problem. The world slowly became an atheist and from this did not become happy, did not find comforting answers to the most significant questions. In Dostoyevsky it is so finely written, so versatilely revealed, so many associations, ramifications, in that one way or another, the novel touches on virtually everything essential in human life. It can be read all my life, and every time it will sound a little different. I definitely want to put “Crime and Punishment” in Hungary. I believe that this work should be in the repertoire. Because it is the theater’s answer to all those questions that surround us. Correct answer.
