Где главный мотив — достоинство, потерять которое неприемлемо, ибо вся грядущая жизнь — это искупление преступления через страдания, унижения, немощь. Для Эдипа достоинство — главная опора в жизни, даже если это жизнь изгоя и калеки.
Достоинство, так ли часто оно — мерило поступков в наши дни?

Having committed the murder in passion, out of ignorance, he finds the strength to judge himself. Not a punishment from outside, but a sentence pronounced on oneself, strict, merciless, moral. Where the main motive is dignity, which is unacceptable to lose, for the whole future life is the atonement of crime through suffering, humiliation, weakness. For Oedipus, dignity is the main support in life, even if it is a life of an outcast and a cripple.
