С этим хореографом жаждет работать весь балетный мир.
И где только ни идут его спектакли — в труппах Канады, США, Дании, Германии, Швеции, Швейцарии... Но это те спектакли, которые Жан-Кристоф Майо вместе со своими ассистентами перенес на другие сцены. А созданы они все — в Монако, в труппе Балет Монте-Карло, которую он возродил и взрастил. Уже много лет Парижская опера уламывает его поставить балет специально для ее артистов, но он неумолим.
Потому что не в статусе труппы дело, единственное, что имеет значение, — это артисты. Ему надо знать их, любить, понимать, изучить язык их тел и уметь воздействовать на эмоции. Работать с «незнакомцами» он не хочет, хотя его очень увлекает процесс вытягивания наружу тех свойств и качеств, о которых танцовщик и сам иногда догадаться не в силах. Но процесс должен быть обоюдным: артисту необходимо ему доверять и доверяться. Они должны идти навстречу друг другу.
