Butterflies in my stomach (бабочки в желудке) — именно от этой английской пословицы в нашу речь вошла идиома «Бабочки порхают в животе», что означает состояние влюбленности, например: I have butterflies in the stomach every time I see her. (Я волнуюсь каждый раз, когда я вижу ее.)
Фраза уже давно и прочно вошла в лексику многих народов мира. «Бабочки, порхающие в животе» по-итальянски звучат как «farfalle nella pancia», а по-французски «сhez moi les papillons voltigent dans le ventre». У израильтян есть красивое выражение «Парпарим ба-бэтэн». Это когда какая-нибудь женщина вызывает восторг, заводит. В испанском — «tengo mariposas en el estomago», каталонском — «tinc papallones a l’estomac». Тут бабочки порхают под влиянием положительных эмоций, как и в шведском — «ha fjarilar i magen (vara nervos)» — испытывать позитивное волнение, тревогу. А вот в немецком (die Schmetterlinge fliegen im Bauch) у крылатого выражения проявляется и негативное второе значение — не только влюбленность, но еще и страх. Не даром ощущение трепетания в желудке мы испытываем и перед экзаменом, и перед другими ответственными событиями. Но на первом месте остается, конечно же, влюбленность.
