Завтра, 18 июля, в 20:00 на мультимедийной выставке AMAZONAS буду рассказывать про подводную археологию в Мезоамерике — про древности, которые скрывают воды Мексики и Гватемалы, про священные сеноты, затонувший древний город майя и галеоны с сокровищами испанской короны.
Сеноты, куда сейчас водят сотни туристов, в культуре древних майя рассматривались как врата в подземный мир и места рождения богов. Они служили ритуальными местами для проведения различных обрядов и жертвоприношений — в том числе человеческих. Во многих сенотах обнаружены фрагменты скелетов, а в особо значимых сенотах, таких, как Священный сенот в Чичен-Ице, помимо человеческих останков были найдены предметы из золота и богатые подношения.
На дне гватемальского озера Атитлан лежит целый затопленный древний город майя. Город случайно нашли в 90-х: там сохранились фундаменты домов и круглых строений, стелы, алтари, пристани и центральная площадь.

Tomorrow, July 18, at 20:00 at the multimedia exhibition AMAZONAS I will talk about underwater archeology in Mesoamerica - about the antiquities that hide the waters of Mexico and Guatemala, about the sacred cenotes, the sunken ancient Mayan city and galleons with the treasures of the Spanish crown.
Cenotes, where hundreds of tourists are now taking, were considered in the ancient Mayan culture as the gateway to the underworld and the birthplace of the gods. They served as ritual places for various ceremonies and sacrifices - including human ones. Fragments of skeletons were found in many cenotes, and in especially significant cenotes, such as the Holy Cenote in Chichen Itza, in addition to human remains, objects of gold and rich offerings were found.
At the bottom of the Guatemalan lake Atitlan lies a whole flooded ancient Mayan city. The city was accidentally found in the 90s: the foundations of houses and round structures, steles, altars, marinas and the central square were preserved there.
