RADIOHEAD, НОВЫЙ АЛЬБОМ И НЕВНИМАТЕЛЬНОЕ ПРОСЛУШИВАНИЕ.
Прошло уже десять лет с тех пор, как я первый раз услышал группу Radiohead. Произошло это ещё в школьные годы, когда я слушал много русского рока и только-только начинал вникать в то, как играют "не у нас". Эффект от прослушивания этой группы был никакой. Я честно послушал 10 песен, и ни одна из них не произвела никакого впечатления. Все песни казались унылыми, вокал жалобным. Я был разочарован и удалил группу с плеера года на два.
Прошло время. Будучи уже в академии и активно осваивая гитару, я снова вернулся к этой группе, услышав песню High and Dry (мне понравилось гитарное соло, незатейливое и простое, но вместе с тем яркое и цепляющее). Загуглив, что самый известный альбом группы O.K.Computer, я предпринял попытку №2 и закачал его в плеер, но снова безрезультатно. Песни казались неинтересными, вокал безэмоциональным (впоследствии я понял, что именно в его безэмоциональности заключается величайшая эмоциональность), альбом был опять удалён, но соло High and Dry крепко сидело в голове, и я решил посмотреть, что же ещё есть у группы, чей лучший альбом я так и не смог осилить. Я посмотрел пару ранних лайвов и на этот раз был невероятно впечатлён. Особенно запомнился акустический концерт в Париже и короткий лайв, где Джонни Гринвуд и Том Йорк играли песню You (можно посмотреть в конце этого поста). В этих выступлениях чувствовалась какая-то бешеная энергетика, не похожая на то, что я слушал ранее. Я основательно подсел на раннее творчество группы, и постепенно смог осилить и O.K.Computer (на самом деле, я до сих пор не могу понять, почему именно этот альбом считается лучшим, субъективно более позднее творчество гораздо более эклектично и нестандартно в плане аранжировок).
Время шло. Я потихоньку открыл для себя In Rainbows и сольные альбомы участников, поняв основную фишку Radiohead. Очень редко их песни цепляют с первого раза. Невнимательное прослушивание - это как раз то, из-за чего многие терпят фиаско при попытке проникнуться этой группой. Radiohead - это как хорошее вино, которое нужно распробовать (при чём чем позднее выпускался альбом, тем необходимость внимательно расслушивать возрастает в геометрической прогрессии).
И вот уже полгода как вышел альбом Moon-Shaped Pool. С первого раза этот альбом совершенно не цепляет (как обычно) и поражает своей "чудовищной неамбициозностью", как было сказано в одном из обзоров. Действительно, революция O.K.Computer отгремела, вчерашние рок-идолы сменили гитары на синтезаторы/фортепиано и сэмплеры и стали делать делать совершенно другую музыку. Вряд ли их можно в этом упрекнуть. Но оригинальность и нестандартность мышления, желание всеми силами избежать шаблонности остались, просто, в отличие от раннего гитарного творчества, они перестали быть слишком бросающимися в глаза, стали не столь очевидными и доступными лишь после вдумчивого вслушивания.
Отмечу, что на альбоме преобладают очень спокойные и размеренные композиции: много фортепианных опусов, очень много экспериментов с обработкой вокала, нетипичные струны (настолько нетипичные, что я, пожалуй, с трудом смог бы подобрать похоже звучащего исполнителя) и практически нет мощных гитарных треков, характерных для раннего творчества. Отдельного внимания заслуживает клип на песню Daydreaming.
К чему я всё это? Сложно сказать. Наверное, к тому, что не вся музыка может впечатлить с первого прослушивания и есть вещи, в которые надо вслушиваться, и, если вслушаться, то будешь вознаграждён. А если нет, то просто будешь дальше искать что-то более подходящее тебе. Как Том Йорк в клипе Daydreaming.

RADIOHEAD, A NEW ALBUM AND INACCEPTIVE LISTENING.
It's been ten years since I first heard the band Radiohead. This happened back in school, when I listened to a lot of Russian rock and just started to delve into how they play “not with us”. There was no effect from listening to this group. I honestly listened to 10 songs, and not one of them made any impression. All the songs seemed dull, the vocals mournful. I was disappointed and deleted the group from the player for two years.
Time has passed. Being already at the academy and actively mastering the guitar, I returned to this group again when I heard the song High and Dry (I liked the guitar solo, unpretentious and simple, but at the same time bright and catchy). Googling that the most famous album of the O.K.Computer group, I made an attempt No. 2 and uploaded it to the player, but again to no avail. The songs seemed uninteresting, the vocals were unemotional (later I realized that it was his emotion that was the greatest emotional), the album was deleted again, but the solo High and Dry was firmly in my head, and I decided to see what else the group whose best was I couldn’t master the album. I watched a couple of early live and this time was incredibly impressed. I especially remember the acoustic concert in Paris and a short live, where Johnny Greenwood and Tom York played the song You (you can see it at the end of this post). In these speeches, some kind of furious energy was felt, not like what I listened to earlier. I thoroughly got hooked on the band's early work, and gradually managed to master O.K. Computer (in fact, I still can’t understand why this album is considered the best, subjectively, the later work is much more eclectic and non-standard in terms of arrangements).
As time went. I slowly discovered In Rainbows and the solo albums of the participants, realizing the main feature of Radiohead. Very rarely, their songs catch on the first try. Inattentive listening is just what many people fail in trying to penetrate this group. Radiohead is like a good wine that needs to be tasted (and the later the album is released, the more carefully the need to listen carefully increases exponentially).
And for half a year now the Moon-Shaped Pool album was released. From the first time this album does not catch on at all (as usual) and impresses with its "monstrous unambitiousness", as was said in one of the reviews. Indeed, the O.K. Computer revolution died out, yesterday's rock idols changed guitars to synthesizers / pianos and samplers and began to make completely different music. It is unlikely that they can be blamed for this. But the originality and unconventionality of thinking, the desire to avoid being stereotyped by all means remained, simply, unlike early guitar work, they ceased to be too conspicuous, became not so obvious and accessible only after thoughtful listening.
I note that the album is dominated by very calm and measured compositions: a lot of piano opuses, a lot of experimentation with vocal processing, atypical strings (so atypical that I, perhaps, could hardly pick up a sounding artist) and there are practically no powerful guitar tracks, characteristic of early creativity. Special attention deserves the video for the song Daydreaming.
Why am I doing all this? Hard to tell. Probably, to the fact that not all music can impress from the first listening and there are things that you need to listen to, and if you listen carefully, you will be rewarded. And if not, then you will simply continue to look for something more suitable for you. Like Tom York in the Daydreaming music video.
