Ночесветки ( лат Noctiluca) — род Protozoa из типа динофлагеллят (Dinoflagellata).
Тело шаровидное (диаметр 2-3 мм), с подвижным сократимым щупальцем. Размножаются делением надвое или образованием мелких (длина около 20 мкм) почек на поверхности тела. Цитоплазма ноктилюки заполнена жировыми включениями, которые при механических или химических раздражениях (в опытах — также при действии электрического тока) обладают способностью к биолюминесценции. Образуя скопления в поверхностных слоях тёплых, реже бореальных вод, вызывают свечение моря.

Noctiluca cytoplasm is filled with fatty inclusions, which, with mechanical or chemical stimuli (in experiments - also under the action of electric current), have the ability to bioluminescence.
