Many DSM disorders also seem at least partially culturally bound. Most notoriously, until the early 1970s homosexuality had been listed as a disorder in an early version of the manual and was removed in part in response to lobbying and shifts in cultural attitudes that called into question the original diagnostic criteria.

Author cool trolls all researchers on the subject of mental disorders. Recommended for thoughtful reading.
Particularly pleased with the problem of homosexuality, which was cut out of the DSM (Diagnostic Statistical Manual), because of public lobbying, and not because it suddenly ceased to be a mental disorder. Well, and this, of course, gave rise to questions to the manual itself. Really, he was so poorly composed that there was already a whole homosexuality there)).
