Благодаря усилиям и слаженной работе нескольких людей, в том числе Александра Омельченко (АФТУ РАН), Павла Певзнера (UCSD) и Николая Вяххи заяка на создание в Петербурге лаборатории мирового уровня по биоинформатике выиграла мегагрант на $5 млн. на 2 года.
Важную роль в старте лаборатории сыграл также проект начатый совместно с компанией JetBrains, теперь к развитию биоинформатики в Петербурге присоединились ведущие западные ученые и умные деньги от государства.
