Сир 6, 5-17
Чтение книги Премудрости Иисуса, сына Сирахова.
Сладкие уста умножат друзей, и доброречивый язык умножит приязнь. Живущих с тобою в мире да будет много, а советником твоим — один из тысячи. Если хочешь приобрести друга, приобретай его по испытании, и не скоро вверяйся ему. Бывает друг в нужное для него время, и не останется с тобою в день скорби твоей; и бывает друг, который превращается во врага и откроет ссору к поношению твоему. Бывает другом участник в трапезе, и не останется с тобою в день скорби твоей. В имении твоём он будет как ты, и дерзко будет обращаться с домочадцами твоими; но если ты будешь унижен, он будет против тебя, и скроется от лица твоего. Отдаляйся от врагов твоих, и будь осмотрителен с друзьями твоими. Верный друг — крепкая защита; кто нашёл его, нашёл сокровище. Верному другу нет цены, и нет меры доброте его. Верный друг — врачевство для жизни, и боящиеся Господа найдут его. Боящийся Господа направляет дружбу свою так, что, каков он сам, таким делается и друг его.

В то время: Иисус приходит в пределы Иудейские за Иорданскою стороною. Опять собирается к Нему народ, и, по обычаю Своему, Он опять учил их. Подошли фарисеи и спросили, искушая Его: позволительно ли разводиться мужу с женою? Он сказал им в ответ: что заповедал вам Моисей? Они сказали: Моисей позволил писать разводное письмо и разводиться. Иисус сказал им в ответ: по жестокосердию вашему он написал вам сию заповедь. В начале же создания, Бог мужчину и женщину сотворил их. Посему оставит человек отца своего и мать, и прилепится к жене своей, и будут два одною плотью; так что они уже не двое, но одна плоть. Итак, что Бог сочетал, того человек да не разлучает. В доме ученики Его опять спросили Его о том же. Он сказал им: кто разведётся с женою своею и женится на другой, тот прелюбодействует от неё; и если жена разведётся с мужем своим и выйдет за другого, прелюбодействует.

Reading the book of the Wisdom of Jesus, the son of Sirach.
Sweet lips will multiply friends, and a good-natured tongue will increase affection. Let there be many living in the world with you, and your adviser - one out of a thousand. If you want to make a friend, get one by trial, and don't soon trust him. A friend happens at the right time for him, and will not stay with you on the day of your grief; and there is a friend who turns into an enemy and opens a quarrel to your reproach. A participant in a meal happens to be a friend, and will not stay with you on the day of your grief. In your estate he will be like you, and he will defiantly treat your household; but if you are humbled, he will be against you, and will hide from your sight. Get far away from your enemies, and be careful with your friends. A faithful friend is a strong defense; whoever found him, found a treasure. A faithful friend has no price, and no measure of his kindness. A faithful friend is healing for life, and those who fear the Lord will find him. He who fears the Lord directs his friendship in such a way that, like himself, so does his friend.

At that time: Jesus comes into the borders of Judah beyond the Jordanian side. Again the people gather to Him, and, according to His custom, He again taught them. The Pharisees came up and asked, tempting Him: is it permissible for a husband to divorce his wife? He answered them: What did Moses command you? They said: Moses allowed me to write a divorce letter and get divorced. Jesus answered them: because of your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment. At the beginning of creation, God created them male and female. Therefore, a man will leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, and they will be two with one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. So, what God combined, that man does not separate. In the house, his disciples again asked him the same thing. He told them: he who divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery from her; and if a wife divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.
