Про Ангкор Ват я услышал лет 5 назад от своего друга Майка Спенсера Бауна aka "the world's most travelled man".
I heard about Angkor Wat about 5 years ago from my friend Mike Spencer Bauna aka "The world's most traveled man". Then, unfortunately, I did not pay attention to his story about this place and in general did not really know anything about the country like Cambodia. At that time I heard only about the Khmer Rouge, especially the cruel Communist revolutionaries from the 20th century, who conquered the capital Phnom Penh. What could be interesting in the Asian wilderness, I thought, there definitely is not worth going. How wrong I was! Going once again to Thailand, I again heard about Anchor from a colleague. She highly recommended visiting him. Arriving in Bangkok, I went to Siem Reap to see the temple complex (it is located 7 km from Siem Reap). Briefly about it: it was built in the 12th century during the heyday of the Khmer Empire and was dedicated to Hindu gods (mainly Vishnu). On the area of 200 km there are more than 45 temples. The very idea that in the middle of the jungle people were able to build such magnificent, architecturally unique, very original buildings with stone was amazing. The main temple of Angkor Wat was built for 40 years by 250 thousand people. By the complexity of the construction of these structures can be compared only with the Egyptian pyramids, and the skill of execution with the best European models (Greek or Roman). The stones are ideally matched to each other and decorated with carvings, telling about the life of the people, the events of history or religious texts, their characters. Another striking fact is that the temples served literally several hundred years, in the 15th century they decay due to the flourishing of Buddhism in the region, and are overgrown with jungle. They only in the middle of the 19th century will be found by the French naturalist Henri Muo, who will write a book about this, after which the temples of Angkor will find a second life. # cambodia # angkorvat #cambodia #angkorwat #ancientcity #angkor
