Well then. The memory of the innocent victims is forgotten. Too many present-day Russians shout about patriotism, but at the same time sympathize with anyone - the Poles killed in the Volyn massacre, the Yezidis persecuted by ISIS, the Indian tribes destroyed by white Americans - only non-Russian people killed and tortured under Stalin. Of course, both Poles and Indians deserve sympathy, but what about a person who is experiencing the death of Fazil Iskander, but the death of his father or grandfather is not? This is the kind of association I get from those who shout about Bandera and trample on the memory of the Gulag. I am already silent about those who are simultaneously shouting about their Orthodoxy, but do not want to understand in any way that the Gulag is including the new martyrs.

Of course, you can compose any nonsense to justify repression. Bandera also composed it a lot to justify Bandera (the Volyn massacre was allegedly carried out not by Bandera, but by the NKVDists dressed as Bandera, etc.) I also read the excuses of Nazism - and they are no less "convincing." Here Kurginyanovites interviewed the security guard of this Perm-36 camp - and he, of course, says that there were solid SS men sitting there: http://eotperm.ru/?p=639#part1. They would have asked Auschwitz’s guard, too, who would have told how wonderful everything was. But whoever wants, of course, will believe ...

History is full of examples of just retribution. Therefore, no matter how pathetic it is, we have to admit that no great Russia can be built on spitting in memory of the innocently killed from the Russian people. I would like Russia to be great, but this, like everything else, can only be achieved with the right means. Only Russia that can learn to be proud of the bright and glorious pages of its history and condemn the dark can become truly great, strong, prosperous. Only if the memory of the heroic deed of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and the memory of the Stalinist repressions will not be opposed to each other (if we remember one thing - we don’t remember the other), but get along like the consciousness of the good and evil deeds of his ancestors coexists in a person, we can really confidently stand on two legs and, if you want, even successfully resist American hegemony. And the current policy - pedaling the memory of the war sometimes to exhaustive search and erasing the memory of repression - will lead us to where spitting on the graves of innocently killed ancestors leads. Sooner or later, no matter how hard you try, you will still be very ashamed of these spitting, and this shame will serve to discredit and, consequently, to weaken Russia.

It is amnesia that will weaken Russia, and not the memory of repressions and their condemnation. The proof is Germany, which does not prevent the memory of Nazism and its condemnation from being one of the strongest economies and the EU leader. And in Hollywood, many films have been shot condemning the genocide of the Indians, which does not weaken the United States. Therefore, it does not weaken that these countries thereby say: "Now we are not like that, forget about our past, look at us now, much better." And Russia, refusing to condemn the repression, thereby says: "I am now like that." And he speaks not only to foreigners, but also to his citizens, who are able to read Akhmatova’s Requiem even without museums. How can this strengthen us and help us?
