Недавно я переводила на деловых переговорах, посвященных логистическим и таможенным вопросам. Но тематика – это не суть, главное было в специфике этих переговоров. Когда в университете нам втолковывали, что один из главных принципов перевода – это переводить все, что говорит оратор или выступающий, мне это всегда казалось вполне естественным. И в прошлые разы, когда я переводила на подобных мероприятиях, мне никто не говорил: "Ой, а вот это, пожалуйста, не переводите". Но в этот раз я столкнулась с тем, что русской стороне (их было человек 9) было совсем не нужно, чтобы двое американцев поняли, о чем они вообще говорят. Мне постоянно говорилось, что, дескать, это не надо переводить, потому что это наши внутренние дела и им совсем не обязательно знать про них. Иногда, правда, справедливости ради надо отметить, мне вежливо говорилось:"А вот это Вы можете им перевести". Но в итоге американцы, наверное, услышали примерно 30% всей информации. Зато когда говорили они, русские внимательно слушали мой перевод. Мне было искренне жаль американцев, потому что время от времени они просто не понимали, что происходит. Одному из них даже однажды изменила выдержка, и когда на свой вопрос он получил однозначное нет (хотя обсуждение этого вопроса длилось минут пять), он с недоумением спросил: "All this discussion and you just said "no"?"

Все было бы забавно, если бы не было в то же время грустно. Порой мы удивляемся, почему к нашей стране и к нашим людям не очень хорошо относятся на западе. Наверное, не последнюю роль в формировании такого отношения играет подобное поведение бизнесменов и деловых людей. Не надо делать из иностранцев дураков и думать, что они этого не понимают.

But this time I was faced with the fact that the Russian side (there were 9 of them) did not need at all for the two Americans to understand what they were talking about. I was constantly told that, they say, this does not need to be translated, because these are our internal affairs and they do not have to know about them at all. Sometimes, however, in fairness it should be noted, I was politely told: "But you can translate this to them." But in the end, the Americans probably heard about 30% of all the information. But when they spoke, the Russians carefully listened to my translation. I was truly sorry for the Americans, because from time to time they simply did not understand what was happening. One of them even once changed the excerpt, and when he received a definite no to his question (although the discussion of this issue lasted about five minutes), he asked in bewilderment: "All this discussion and you just said" no "?"

Everything would be funny if it were not sad at the same time. Sometimes we wonder why our country and our people are not very well treated in the West. Probably not the last role in the formation of such an attitude is played by similar behavior of businessmen and business people. No need to make fools of foreigners and think that they do not understand this.
