Alan Hovhaness, Mystic Flute op. 22
Alan Hovhaness [hoʊˈvɑːnɪs] (1911 – 2000) was an American composer. Hovhaness's first work with an innovative technique was Lousadzak (op. 48) that he called "spirit murmur". It's an early example of aleatoric music inspired by a vision of Hermon di Giovanno. The technique, essentially similar to the 1960s ad libitum aleatory of Lutoslawski, involves instruments repeating phrases in an uncoordinated fashion, producing a complex "cloud" or "carpet" of sounds
