Августовский путч — исторические политические события 18—21 августа 1991 года в Советском Союзе, получившие оценку со стороны официальных лиц и органов государственной власти в СССР как заговор, государственный переворот и антиконституционный захват власти.
В августе 1991 года, балет на протяжении всех трех дней путча показывали по всем телеканалам. «Лебединое озеро» стало одновременно и эмблемой политической реставрации, и как бы одним из заключительных аккордов советской эпохи, ее лебединой песней.
The 1991 Soviet coup d'état attempt, also known as the August Putsch or August Coup was an attempt by members of the Soviet Union's government to take control of the country from the then Soviet President and General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev.
The coup leaders were hard-line members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) who were opposed to Gorbachev's reform program and the new union treaty that he had negotiated which decentralised much of the central government's power to the republics.
For the entire three days of the coup, "Swan Lake", the ballet, was shown on all TV channels. The ballet became both an emblem of political restoration, and, as it came to pass, one of the final chords of the Soviet era, its swan song.
