История народного названия праздника уходит в дохристианские времена. В этот день в деревнях устраивали массовые гуляния на окрестных холмах, где земля уже успевала прогреться и подсохнуть.
Есть предположение, что отмечали его на высоких горах, откуда снег сходил в первую очередь, и там первыми расцветали цветы. Красная — то есть «красивая»

Вообще-то, строго говоря, Красная горка — это не один, а целый ряд праздников, посвященных весне. «Он состоит из праздника в честь Ярилы Вешнего, Радоницы (поминовение предков. — Прим. ред.), потом 1 мая Живин день, а 10 мая — день Земли. Эти праздники как бы собрались в “кучку”, в горку, поэтому мы их так и называем», — подчеркивает родновер.
Потом, по его словам, некоторые из них перекочевали в христианскую традицию и стали отсчитываться от праздника Пасхи.
И, конечно, в это время, которое наши предки связывали с пробуждением природы, принято было играть свадьбы.
