Сегодня в Кении День Выборов. Выбирают, впрочем, всех подряд: сенаторов, губернаторов графств, членов парламента и ПРЕЗИДЕНТА. Кстати, тут в губернаторской гонке участвует брат Барака Обамы, но репутация у него to be honest так себе.
Кенийцы странные люди: последние две недели перед голосованием у них был словно затяжной Новый Год - все пели и плясали на улицах, по городу ездили сотни разрисованных автомобилей и грузовиков с гирляндами, светомузыкой и огромными колонками на крышах c задорным рэпом или диско, агитируя за того или другого кандидата, в школах объявили каникулы, все было очень куражно и весело. А прошлой ночью за пару часов до открытия участков у нас тут под Момбасой зарубили мачете пятерых полицейских. В городе Гарисса стреляли в кандидата, убили фельдшера и водителя Красного креста. По последним данным погибших человек 17. В обед слышали пару выстрелов, около часа назад пронеслись под окнами сирены. Но сейчас уже все громко помолились и, видимо, разошлись по домам ждать подсчетов голосов.
Погода, кстати, портиться. Первый раз за последние 25 дней ожидаем дождь...
Так прошел наш день - 4 марта. Думаю, серьезный день в истории этой страны.

Today is Election Day in Kenya. However, everyone is elected: senators, county governors, members of parliament and the PRESIDENT. By the way, Barack Obama's brother is taking part in the governor's race here, but his reputation to be honest is so-so.
Kenyans are strange people: the last two weeks before the vote, they had like a protracted New Year - everyone sang and danced in the streets, hundreds of painted cars and trucks with garlands, light music and huge speakers on the roofs with perky rap or disco drove around the city or another candidate, the schools announced a vacation, everything was very courageous and fun. And last night, a couple of hours before the opening of the stations, five policemen were hacked to death with a machete here near Mombasa. In the city of Garissa, a candidate was shot at, a paramedic and a Red Cross driver were killed. According to the latest figures of the dead, there are 17. At lunchtime we heard a couple of shots, about an hour ago sirens flashed under the windows. But now everyone has already prayed loudly and, apparently, went home to await the counting of votes.
The weather, by the way, deteriorates. Expect rain for the first time in the last 25 days ...
So our day passed - March 4th. I think this is a serious day in the history of this country.
