It is said that Galle was the Old Testament city of Tarshish and King Solomon had a fleet of ships there with his ally King Hiram of Tyre. Once every three years the fleet of ships of Tarshish used to come bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. Well, of course, we are not the first Europeans here. Portuguese were the first, they landed on the island in the XIV century. But in 1640 the Dutch recaptured this wonderland from the Portuguese and then built a granite fort quickly to protect the city from other potential invaders. Now this is one of the best preserved colonial forts in Asia. And in the eastern part of the fort in Utrecht bastion there is a romantic 18 meter snow-white lighthouse, which was the first reference point for the arriving ships on the island of Ceylon.
Sometimes I dream about living on an island where there is a lighthouse. And sometimes I dream about becoming a guardian of a lighthouse. After all, if there is anything so reliable on earth - this is the light of a lighthouse. There are not so many absolute things in the world: ocean currents and seasons. And the fact that the sun rises in the morning. And that beacon of a lighthouse…

Раз в три года флот кораблей Фарсиса привозил золото, серебро, слоновую кость, обезьян и павлинов. Город был крупным центром торговли - здесь вели свои дела персидские, греческие, римские, арабские, малайские и индийские купцы. 2000 лет назад здесь останавливались торговые суда во время путешествия из Аравии в Китай и обратно. Мы тоже не хотели упускать свой шанс, поэтому наша поездка на Шри-Ланку началась здесь.
