Я вам рассказывала про ланкийские дворцы XII века? Забудьте! Это новостройки, не интересно. Вот Он - высеченный в скале, пещерный монастырь в Дамбулле I века до нашей эры! Это самый крупный пещерный храм в Азии и на протяжении последних 22-х веков он является самым священным местом для буддистских паломников со всего мира. Археологические раскопоки говорят о том, что еще с III века до нашей эры эти пещеры служили жилищем для буддистских монахов, а до того - для древних обитателей острова, населявших эти места еще в доисторические времена.
Внутри монастыря 5 больших и более 70 маленьких пещер, связанных между собой коридорами. В этих пещерах сидят, стоят, лежат около 200, покрытых чистейшим золотом, Будд. Большинству из них уже более 2000 лет и это самая большая коллекция статуй Будд в мире. А стены храма - это ценнейшая галерея живописи, которую просто смотреть не пересмотреть. Например, потолок с изображениями 1000 Будд в медитации, важные исторические моменты в жизни государства и буддизма или главные моменты жизни самого Будды: его рождение, отречение от царской жизни, прозрение, семь недель после озарения, чтение первой проповеди, уход в Нирвану... Видно, что во многих местах рисунки наносились на уже имеющиеся и это свидетельствует о том, что храм расписывали на протяжении продолжительного периода времени, до XVIII века. Примерно в начале XVIII века на прилегающей к храму территории проживала целая династия знаменитых художников, которые и занимались храмовой росписью Дамбуллы. Общая площадь фресок и наскальных рисунков - внимание! - 2 300 кв. м.
На свете так много необычных и загадочных мест, что для того чтобы их посетить, может не хватит и жизни (хотя, я очень стараюсь). Но, есть места, которые заслуживают особого внимания из-за своей уникальности. Таким местом несомненно является Дамбулла. Разглядывая всё это, невозможно не сойти с ума и не захлебнуться от восторга, ведь несмотря на столь почтенный уже возраст, вся эта красота дошла до нас почти в первозданном виде. Это удивительное место. Оказавшись здесь, все мирское становится мелким и уже не таким важным. Полуденный зной быстро сменяется пещерной прохладой, которая просто-таки располагает к мыслям о вечном…

And the walls of the temple are the most valuable gallery of paintings, which simply cannot be reviewed. For example, a ceiling with images of 1000 Buddhas in meditation, important historical moments in the life of the state and Buddhism, or the main moments in the life of the Buddha himself: his birth, renunciation of royal life, epiphany, seven weeks after enlightenment, reading the first sermon, leaving for Nirvana ... It can be seen that in many places the drawings were applied to existing ones, and this indicates that the temple was painted over a long period of time, until the 18th century. Around the beginning of the 18th century, a whole dynasty of famous artists lived on the territory adjacent to the temple, who were engaged in the temple painting of Dambulla. The total area of frescoes and rock paintings - attention! - 2 300 sq. m.
There are so many unusual and mysterious places in the world that life may not be enough to visit them (although, I try very hard). But, there are places that deserve special attention because of their uniqueness. Dambulla is undoubtedly such a place. Looking at all this, it is impossible not to go crazy and not choke with delight, because despite such a venerable age, all this beauty has come down to us almost in its original form.
