Потом вас осеняет, что высоких целей ваш народ добьется, только когда железный порядок будет установлен и заткнут пасть всем этим крикунам и бумагомаракам, разглагольствующим о свободах; когда поставят к стенке (без суда и следствия) всех, кто идет поперек, а инородцев беспощадно возьмут к ногтю...
И как только вы приняли все это – процесс завершился: вы уже фашист. На вас нет черного мундира со свастикой. Вы не имеете привычки орать «Хайль!». Вы всю жизнь гордились победой нашей страны над фашизмом и, может быть, даже сами лично приближали эту победу. Но вы позволили себе встать в ряды борцов за диктатуру националистов – и вы уже фашист. Как просто! Как страшно просто.

Then it dawns on you that your people will achieve lofty goals only when an iron order is established and the mouths of all these screamers and scribblers ranting about freedom are gagged; when they put up against the wall (without trial or investigation) everyone who goes across, and the aliens will be mercilessly taken to the nail ...
