Всё никак не могла собраться рассказать о книжках. Так вот, дочитываю сейчас "Страстоцвет, или Петербургские подоконники" Ольги Кушлиной. Если вам интересен неожиданный взгляд на искусство эпохи модерна сквозь запотевшее окно оранжереи с экзотическими растениями, со временем завоевавшими своё место на городских подоконниках, - книга для вас. Здесь много любопытного не только о комнатных цветах, но и о тонких взаимоотношениях поэтов Серебряного века.
Александр Блок, например, не любил цветы вообще и не разбирался в них, хотя имел среди родственников видного ботаника. Поэтому в его стихах так много обобщённых "былинок" и безымянных "белых лунных цветов".
Брюсов, выросший в купеческой семье, в гостиной с раскидистыми и модными тогда пальмами, грезил в своих стихах о дальних странах и таинственных криптомериях, а в его программных произведениях - весь перечень комнатных растений его матушки.
Лилии, столь любимые поэтами-модернистами и со времён Средневековья считавшиеся символом невинности и чистоты, у парфюмеров слывут цветами чувственными вплоть до непристойности.
Всем известная песня о ландышах, оказывается, была, как и сам цветок, в послевоенные годы символом пошлости: единственной благопристойной флорой советского кавалера считалась революционная красная гвоздика. А тут какие-то ландыши мещанские.
Литературно-ботаническое исследование перемежается врезками из популярных дореволюционных изданий по цветоводству и отрывками стихов и прозы. Чтение увлекательное и местами захватывает не хуже старого доброго детектива. Начинаешь совершенно другими глазами смотреть на привычные горшки с геранями и фикусами, вспоминаешь давно всеми позабытый, но очень выразительный язык цветов. В общем, всем любопытным настоятельно рекомендую!

I still couldn't get myself together to talk about books. So, I am finishing reading "Passion Flower, or Petersburg Windowsills" by Olga Kushlina. If you are interested in an unexpected look at the art of the Art Nouveau era through a fogged greenhouse window with exotic plants that eventually won their place on city windowsills, this book is for you. There are a lot of interesting things here not only about indoor flowers, but also about the subtle relationships of the poets of the Silver Age.
Alexander Blok, for example, did not like flowers at all and did not understand them, although he had a prominent botanist among his relatives. Therefore, in his poems there are so many generalized "blades" and nameless "white moon flowers".
Bryusov, who grew up in a merchant family, in a living room with spreading and then fashionable palm trees, dreamed in his poems of distant countries and mysterious cryptomeria, and in his programmatic works - the entire list of indoor plants of his mother.
Lilies, so beloved by modernist poets and considered a symbol of innocence and purity since the Middle Ages, are considered by perfumers to be sensual flowers, even to the point of obscenity.
