На плакатах в аэропорту узнали, что это оказывается город-побратим Москвы.
Что бы это ни значило
Итак, о достопримечательностях и впечатлениях:
Аэропорт.
Сели в Стеклянный лифт, полностью! Видны кнопки, провода, тросы.
А в туалете унитазы с электроникой. Проводишь над бачком рукой и полиэтиленовое покрытие на сидушке меняется, съезжает и как бы тем самым обеспечивает (твоей попе) гигиеничное место. Садись - не хочу. Смыв тоже происходит бесконтактно- просто проводишь рукой. Все для вашей гигиены
Улица. Люди
Как они все классно одеты! Сразу понятно, что ты в городе, мегаполисе. Остро почуяла, что понаехала из Хьюстонского колхоза. Вот у нас увидишь- "ковбоя" в джинсах до подмышек и шляпе, или даму в нарядах, из серии сосланных мной на дачу, а тут тебе...и вкус, стиль, изящество, мода, эпатаж. Все есть! Приятно глядеть.
Мы жили на улице Milwaukee где много кафешек, баров и магазинов секонд хенд, но здесь они называются recycle store или donation store
Расположение - полчаса до центра на метро, которое на самом деле не метро, в том смысле что не под землёй, а аккурат вторым уровнем над дорогой. Опоры сделаны ещё в начале 20 века, то есть в 1900 годах, на клепках, из толстой (бронированной?) стали и причудливо сочетаются с зеркальными небоскребами, которые Мируся называет башенками.
Да и вообще, люди там были. Опять таки, прерии Техаса не предполагают частых встреч с обществом. А тут мы ещё и жили на молодёжной улице баров, из окна слышали смех, разговоры прохожих, музыку из проезжающих машин (только рэп, только хардкор). Это тебе ни звуки газонокосилки и шум автобана из моего Хьюстонского окна.
А бары! Какое развеселье царило в пт и сб на этой Milwaukee street. это как бы если думская улица была в Амстердаме (так весело и застройка как в Голландии). Но мы с ребёнком. Мы пили чай дома и в 22 уже спали...????
Метро
Ездят в нем люди разных цветов кожи, уровней достатка и изощрений в одежде. Вам и не снилось такого разнообразия (ну, тем, кто не бывал в метро в Нью Йорке)
С 5 утра вагоны принадлежит клеркам и студентам, днём праздношатающимся, вечером тем же, кому и утром, а ночью метро принадлежит маргиналам.
что мне понравилось, так это общее настроение доброжелательности. Мы и в 6 утра ездили и ближе к ночи. Даже в часы пик, когда мы загораживали проход детской коляской, люди очень мирно это все воспринимали. Не было этой Российской ненависти, висящей в воздухе в аналогичной ситуации. Когда об эту коляску все спотыкаются и чертыхаются, а ты чувствуешь себя очень виноватым за причиняемые неудобства.
Город.
Небоскрёбы понастроенны, но я их не люблю в принципе, пугают они меня. Поэтому только скажу так: их много. Рекламы нет в городе вообще. Единственная надпись Trump. На небоскрёбе, видать, принадлежащем самому Дональду Трампу.
Центр города отличен, хорош, интересен. Много парков, детских площадок, куча клумб, подсветок, оформленных мест, пешеходных зон, riverwalk (прогулочная Дорожка вдоль реки), дороги ровные. Все для людей, туристов и прочих, у кого есть деньги
Ибо все, конечно, не дёшево. Отели от 200, обед от 50, вход в метро 3 бакса.
Бездомные.
По вечерам, центр города, этот downtown с небоскребами, пустеет и на улицах обнаруживаемся большое число бродяг. Очень много бомжей и попрошаек. У нас такого нет. Во первых, Санкт-Петербург редко увидишь таким пустынным, как центр Чикаго в субботу в 22, и, во вторых, никогда не видела Спб настолько наводнённым бродягами.
Вот так и остался в памяти Чикаго, не такой крутой как Нью Йорк, город небоскребов и метро
А на все те деньги, на которые возведены клумбы и современно-искусственные композиции, лучше бы построили приют для бродяг, ей богу.
Ну не могу вот я спокойно наслаждаться красотой клумбы, на которой сидит бездомный и трясет стаканчиком с мелочью, призывая к милостыни.

We lived on Milwaukee street where there are many cafes, bars and second hand shops, but here they are called recycle store or donation store
Location - half an hour to the center by metro, which is not actually a metro, in the sense that it is not underground, but exactly the second level above the road. The pillars were made at the beginning of the 20th century, that is, in the 1900s, on rivets, of thick (armored?) Steel and are fancifully combined with mirrored skyscrapers, which Mirusya calls turrets.
Anyway, people were there. Again, the Texas prairie does not involve frequent social encounters. And here we also lived on the youth street of bars, from the window we heard laughter, conversations of passers-by, music from passing cars (only rap, only hardcore). It’s not the sound of a lawn mower or the noise of the Autobahn from my Houston window.
And the bars! What fun reigned on Fri and Sat on this Milwaukee street. it’s as if the Duma street was in Amsterdam (so fun and development like in Holland). But we are with a child. We drank tea at home and at 22 were already asleep ... ????
Metro
People of different skin colors, levels of wealth and sophistication in clothes ride in it. You never dreamed of such a variety (well, for those who have not been on the subway in New York)

what I liked was the general mood of goodwill. We drove at 6 in the morning and closer to the night. Even at rush hours, when we blocked the passage with a baby carriage, people took it all very peacefully. There was no Russian hatred hanging in the air in a similar situation. When everyone stumbles and curses on this stroller, and you feel very guilty for the inconvenience caused.

The skyscrapers are built, but I don't like them in principle, they scare me. Therefore, I will only say this: there are many of them. There is no advertising in the city at all. The only Trump lettering. On a skyscraper, you see, owned by Donald Trump himself.
The city center is great, nice, interesting. There are many parks, playgrounds, a bunch of flower beds, lights, decorated places, pedestrian zones, riverwalk (walking path along the river), the roads are flat. Everything for people, tourists and others who have money
For all, of course, is not cheap. Hotels from 200, lunch from 50, entrance to the subway 3 bucks.
Homeless.
In the evenings, the city center, this downtown with skyscrapers, is empty and there are a lot of vagrants on the streets. There are a lot of homeless people and beggars. We don't have that. Firstly, you rarely see St. Petersburg as deserted as downtown Chicago on Saturday at 22, and, secondly, you have never seen St. Petersburg so flooded with vagrants.
This is how Chicago remained in the memory, not as cool as New York, the city of skyscrapers and subways
And with all the money used to build flower beds and modern artificial compositions, it would be better to build a shelter for vagabonds, by God.
Well, I can't calmly enjoy the beauty of the flower bed, on which a homeless person sits and shakes a glass of change, calling for alms.
