Locals claim that the temple in the Tanah Lot Ocean was built on one of his travels along the southern coast by priest Dang Hyang Nirartaha in the 15th century. He saw a beautiful place on the island and decided to spend the whole night there. The next morning he told the fishermen that it was a sacred place for worshiping the sea gods. But his words angered the local priest, and he insisted that the rival was a charlatan. In response, Nirarthah began to meditate and moved the rock on which he was sitting in the open sea.
