Дело третье.
Жил в Бердичеве один обедневший мещанин, и подвернулось ему как-то прибыльное дело, вот только нужен начальный капитал, а у него нет ни копейки. Надумал этот человек обратиться к покойному, попросить у него взаймы необходимую сумму.
Спросил его покойный:
- Но ведь уважаемый не богат, так под какое же обеспечение я ссужу его?
Ответил этот человек:
- Под обеспечение Того, Кто обеспечивает.
Услышав это, покойный сразу же согласился ссудить его и сказал:
- На Того, Кто обеспечивает, можно полагаться без колебаний.
И дал ему всю сумму.
Дело пошло, и принесло большую прибыль. По прошествии времени пришел этот человек к покойному, чтобы отдать ему долг. А он не хочет брать. "Уже получил я - говорит - все причитающееся мне полностью".
- Когда - закричал человек - ты получил? Ведь я до сих пор не выплатил тебе ни копейки!
Ответил ему покойный:
- Ты ведь сам говорил, что ссуда обеспечена Тем, Кто обеспечивает. Так он уже выплатил мне все, что должен, с избытком.
И пришли они на суд Торы, и покойный был прав.
И после этих трех судов Торы - заключил цадик - ясно, что подобают ему посмертные почести.
А жители города поняли тогда, что покойный просто вел себя как скряга, чтобы не узнали о его благотворительности.

“You yourself said that the loan was secured by those who provide.” So he has already paid me everything he owes, in abundance.
And they came to the judgment of the Torah, and the deceased was right.

And the residents of the city then realized that the deceased simply acted like a miser, so that they would not know about his charity.
