Эта мебель совсем иного сорта
После свадьбы хасид реб Эльхонон Морозов отправился вместе с женой приобретать мебель в новый дом.
Они пошли в огромный пятиэтажный мебельный магазин. Молодая пара хотела купить стол, две кровати и шкаф. Уже на первом этаже — подходящий набор за 500 рублей.
Но, сами знаете, прежде чем совершить покупку нужно осмотреть весь магазин. Молодожены поднялись на следующий этаж. К их великому удивлению там находился точно такой же набор за 5000 рублей!
Реб Эльхонон подошел к одному из продавцов.
— Извините, любезнейший! Мы видели такой же набор внизу всего за 500, а тут — то же самое за 5000?!
— Вы ошиблись, — ответил продавец, — Это абсолютно другая мебель, очень дорогого сорта дерева, совсем другая вещь. Впрочем, — добавил он, — Вы можете приобрести мебель такого же качества за полцены, 2500 рублей, не изволите ли посмотреть?
— Прошу! — продавец жестом пригласил молодоженов проследовать в соседнюю комнату. — Здесь выставлена та же мебель, но цена снижена вполовину!
Реб Эльхонон с супругой в сопровождении продавца вошли в соседний зал. Там, сама роскошь, стояла мебель, ничем не отличающаяся от предыдущей. То же дерево, тот же цвет. Отличалась только цена.
Терпение реб Эльхонона не выдержало.
— В чем же дело?
— Присмотритесь внимательно, — сжалился продавец, — Вот здесь, (совсем незаметно, правда?) у самой ножки небольшая царапинка. Здесь, на боковой стенке шкафа — пятнышко.
Поставите к стеночке и, уверяю Вас, ничего не будет заметно, а цена меньше ровно вполовину!
О! Маленькая царапинка снижает цены в два раза? Супругам потребовалось лишь несколько мгновений, чтобы спуститься на первый этаж. Где-то там, очевидно находилась такая же, как сперва выбранная ими мебель, но по цене не 500, а 250 рублей. Каково же было их разочарование, когда оказалось, что на первом (самом дешевом) этаже скидок на мебель не делали, хотя предметов с царапинами было хоть отбавляй.
В чем дело? — воскликнул в сердцах реб Эльхонон.
— Поймите, в дорогой мебели даже маленькая царапина много значит. Дорогая мебель с царапиной — не та мебель, поэтому цена ее ниже. На первом этаже царапины и щербины не много меняют.
Лицо реб Эльхонона расплылось в счастливой улыбке, не имеющей отношения к мебельным магазинам. Похоже, что эта улыбка вообще была вызвана чем-то, не относящимся к материальности.
— Теперь я понимаю, что такое любавические «томим» (здесь имеются в виду учащиеся ешивы «Томхей-Тмимим»)!
— Какая связь? — удивилась его жена.
— Я понял три вещи:
Во-первых, «томим» — это «совсем другой сорт»!
Во-вторых, по этой причине, именно у «томим» самый маленький изъян вдвое снижает цену, в то время, как для кого-нибудь другого намного больший недостаток — ничего не меняет.
В-третьих! Тем не менее, «томим с изъяном» во много, во много раз дороже другого, без них, поскольку «эта мебель совсем иного сорта»!

The patience of reb Elhonon could not stand it.

Put to the wall and, I assure you, nothing will be noticeable, and the price is less than exactly half!

Somewhere there, apparently, was the same as the furniture they first selected, but at a price not of 500, but 250 rubles. Imagine their disappointment when it turned out that on the first (cheapest) floor there were no discounts on furniture, although there were plenty of items with scratches.

“Understand that even a small scratch in expensive furniture means a lot.” Expensive furniture with a scratch is not that furniture, so its price is lower. On the ground floor, scratches and dents do not change much.
The face of reb Elhonon blurred in a happy smile, not related to furniture stores. It seems that this smile was generally caused by something not related to materiality.
- Now I understand what the Lubavitcher “tomim” is (I mean the students of the yeshiva “Tomhey-Tmimim”)!
