«И выступил против них Ог, царь Башана, и весь народ его». В конце нашей главы говорится, как великан Ог и его войско пошли против евреев. Это тот самый Ог, который когда-то, очень давно, сообщил Аврааму, что его племянник Лот попал в плен. Авраам поспешил на выручку. Лот с семьей был спасен, а заодно и остальные пленники. Сейчас, однако, великан хотел пролить нашу кровь. Но Всевышний говорит Моше-рабейну: «Не бойся его, ибо в руку твою предаю Я его, и народ его, и страну его…» Строкой ниже мы читаем про победу евреев: «И поразили они его, и сынов его, и весь народ его до единого человека, и овладели страной…» Несмотря на то, что в Торе сказано «и поразили они», Раши пишет: «Моше убил его…» Комментатора не смущает, что все предложение дано во множественном числе — «и поразили», «и овладели». Почему-то он убежден, что великана должен был лишить жизни именно глава евреев. Война с великаном Можно задать еще один вопрос: почему Всевышний говорит «не бойся его», обращаясь именно к Моше, а не ко всему еврейскому войску? Как будто глава евреев имел основания бояться Ога, а остальные люди — нет? Ответ: да, так оно и было. Моше-рабейну стоял ко Всевышнему ближе, чем кто-либо другой. Он знал, что добрые дела, которые совершает человек, Творец помнит вечно. Ог помог Аврааму спасти семью Лота, и теперь эта заслуга могла защитить его на войне, обернувшись большой бедой для всех евреев. Раши ссылается на агаду, которая приводится в трактате Брахот: Ог схватил скалу величиной в три парсы и хотел бросить ее на еврейский лагерь. Агада часто говорит «языком преувеличения», но здесь за метафорой скрывается важный намек. Три парсы — это длина нашего лагеря в пустыне. Ог собирался уничтожить весь еврейский народ. Моше-рабейну опасался, что заслуга Ога поможет ему во время боя. А евреи не боялись. Они видели перед собой еще одного гоя, просто очень больших размеров, и были уверены, что молитва Моше поможет одолеть его. Всевышний говорит главе евреев: «Не бойся! Царь Башана захотел уничтожить всех евреев, и поэтому его былая заслуга пропала полностью». И еще Всевышний говорит Моше: «В руку твою предал Я его». Именно потому, что Моше боялся великана, он должен лично уничтожить этого врага. А остальных противников, включая сыновей великана, евреи истребили сами. Поэтому Тора говорит во множественном числе: «и поразили», «и овладели»… Тора не похожа на учебник истории, где говорится только о прошлом. Мы учим из войны с великаном, что если глава народа, глава поколения, ведет нас в бой, то мы должны довериться ему и помнить: ни сила врагов, ни их количество не может задержать нашей победы. Если молитва «Моше в нашем поколении» принята Творцом, тогда исполнится скоро: «и поразили весь народ его», «и овладели страной…»

"And Og king of Bashan came up against them, and all his people." At the end of our chapter, it is said how the giant Og and his army went against the Jews. This is the same Og who once, a very long time ago, informed Abraham that his nephew Lot was captured. Abraham hastened to the rescue. Lot and his family were saved, and at the same time the rest of the captives. Now, however, the giant wanted to shed our blood. But the Almighty says to Moshe-rabein: “Do not be afraid of him, for in your hand I will betray him, and his people, and his country ...” A line below we read about the victory of the Jews: “And they struck him, and his sons, and all the people they took him to a single man, and took possession of the country ... ”Despite the fact that the Torah says“ and they struck ”, Rashi writes:“ Moshe killed him ... ”The commentator does not mind that the whole sentence is given in the plural -“ and they struck ”, "And have taken possession." For some reason, he is convinced that the head of the Jews was supposed to take the life. The war with the giant One more question can be asked: why does the Almighty say “do not be afraid of him,” referring specifically to Moshe, and not to the entire Jewish army? As if the head of the Jews had reason to fear Og, and the rest of the people did not? Answer: yes, that is how it was. Moshe-rabeinu was closer to the Almighty than anyone else. He knew that the good deeds that people do, the Creator remembers forever. Og helped Abraham save Lot's family, and now this merit could protect him in the war, turning into a big disaster for all Jews. Rashi refers to the agadah, which is given in the treatise Brahot: Og grabbed a rock the size of three Parsi and wanted to throw it at the Jewish camp. Haggadah often speaks “in an exaggerated language,” but here an important hint is hidden behind a metaphor. Three Parsis is the length of our desert camp. Og was about to destroy the entire Jewish people. Moshe-rabeinu was afraid that Og’s merit would help him during the battle. But the Jews were not afraid. They saw another goy in front of them, just very large, and were sure that the prayer of Moshe would help him to overcome him. The Almighty says to the head of the Jews: “Do not be afraid! King Bashan wanted to destroy all the Jews, and therefore his former merit was completely lost. ” And the Most High says to Moshe: "In your hand I have betrayed him." It is precisely because Moshe was afraid of the giant that he must personally destroy this enemy. And the remaining enemies, including the sons of the giant, the Jews exterminated themselves. Therefore, the Torah speaks in the plural: “and they struck”, “and took possession” ... The Torah is not like a history textbook, which speaks only about the past. We learn from the war with the giant that if the head of the people, the head of the generation, leads us into battle, then we must trust him and remember: neither the strength of the enemies, nor their number can delay our victory. If the prayer “Moshe in our generation” is accepted by the Creator, then it will be fulfilled soon: “and all his people were struck,” “and took possession of the country ...”
