49. Опыт с шимпанзе
Пять шимпанзе сидят в пустой комнате, посреди которой стоит лестница. Наверху лестницы лежит банан.
Первая обезьяна замечает банан и лезет за ним, чтобы схватить и съесть. Но как только она приближается к фрукту, с потолка обрушивается струя ледяной воды и сбивает ее вниз. Другие обезьяны тоже пытаются забраться на лестницу. Всех сбивает струя, и они отказываются от попыток достать банан.
Воду выключают, а вместо одной вымокшей обезьяны подсаживают другую, сухую. Едва она входит в помещение, как другие обезьяны начинают делать все, чтобы не дать ей забраться на лестницу, чтобы ее тоже не окатило водой.
Новая обезьяна не понимает, что происходит. Она видит только, что сородичи мешают ей завладеть лакомством. Она пытается прорваться силой, дерется. Но она одна, и четыре другие обезьяны берут верх.
Из комнаты забирают еще одну промокшую обезьяну и впускают еще одну сухую. Как только она появляется, предшественница, решив, что новичков нужно встречать именно так, набрасывается на нее и колотит, так что та даже не успевает заметить лестницу и банан. Она уже вне игры.
Затем и остальных вымокших обезьян по очереди заменяют сухими. И каждый раз новичка колотят, как только он оказывается в комнате.
С каждым разом прием, оказанный пришельцу, становится все более суровым. Обезьяны скопом набрасываются на вошедшего, будто стараются усовершенствовать ритуал встречи новичка.
Итак, банан все еще лежит на лестнице, но пять сухих обезьян, обалдев от постоянных драк, даже не думают добраться до него. Теперь их единственная забота – следить за дверью, откуда появится новая обезьяна, чтобы тут же напасть на нее.
Этот опыт был проведен с целью изучения группового поведения людей на предприятии.

The new monkey does not understand what is happening. She only sees that her relatives prevent her from taking possession of the delicacy. She is trying to break through the force, fights. But she is alone, and four other monkeys take over.
Another wet monkey is taken from the room and another dry one is admitted. As soon as she appears, the predecessor, having decided that it is necessary to meet the newcomers in this way, pounces on her and pounds, so that she does not even have time to notice the stairs and the banana. She is already out of the game.
Then, the remaining soaked monkeys are replaced in turn by dry ones. And every time a newcomer is pounded, as soon as he is in the room.
Each time the reception given to the alien becomes more severe. Monkeys in a crowd pounce on the incoming person, as if trying to improve the ritual of meeting a newcomer.
So, the banana still lies on the stairs, but the five dry monkeys, stunned by the constant fights, do not even think to get to it. Now their only concern is to keep an eye on the door, whence a new monkey will appear in order to immediately attack it.
