Учитель тут же воспользовался ситуацией, чтобы преподать ученику очередной урок. Он одолжил у знакомого торговца слона на полчасика, подвел его к слепым и сказал: «Уважаемые, я дам каждому из вас по серебряной драхме, если вы ощупаете этого слона, и расскажете мне, как он, по-вашему, выглядит». Один слепой поднялся и обхватил ногу слона, и стал ее изучать, другой потрогал руками бивень, третий подержался за хвост. После чего первый говорит: «Слон – это большая толстая колонна», второй сказал: «Нет, слон – это огромный острый меч, грозное оружие», на что третий закричал: «Глупцы, слон – это веревка». Три слепца начали спорить и ругаться, и в конце концов, окончательно поссорились. «Ты все понял?» - спросил учитель, глядя на ученика. «Да, господин, я все понял, спасибо за урок», - ответил ученик.
