131 год назад родился Лев Владимирович Руднев (1885-1956) – выдающийся советский архитектор, автор комплекса зданий Московского университета на Ленинских горах. Коллективу архитекторов под его руководством (проект был разработан в 1948-1953 гг. совместно с С.Е.Чернышевым, П.В.Абросимовым, А.Ф.Хряковым и инженером В.Н.Насоновым) удалось решить уникальную задачу – создать здание, сочетающее условия для ведения учебной и научной деятельности, проживания и культурного отдыха студентов и преподавателей, являющееся при этом архитектурной доминантой Москвы.
Cекрет успеха Л.В.Руднева и его коллег заключался в следующем: «“Если бы я тут жил, – думал каждый из нас, – я мог бы с полным правом сказать, что я живу в доме науки и вся жизнь моя приспособлена к овладению сокровищами человеческого знания, к новому его обогащению. Когда я в университете – я дома, а когда я дома – я учусь”. Это слияние личного быта и науки мы и стремились воплотить в архитектуре здания. Нам хотелось, чтобы каждый, кто проведет несколько лет в его стенах, считал бы эти годы самыми лучшими в своей жизни».
