“Как-то Лао-Цзы путешествовал с учениками, и они пришли в лес, где рубили деревья. Почти весь лес был уже вырублен, за исключением одного огромного дерева. Лао-Цзы попросил учеников узнать, почему это дерево не срубили. Они спросили лесорубов, и те ответили:
- Это дерево совершенно бесполезно. У него нет ни одной прямой ветки и так много сучьев, что оно не пригодно для изготовления мебели. Его дым вреден для глаз, поэтому на дрова его тоже не пустить. От этого дерева нет никакой пользы.
Ученики пересказали слова дровосеков Лао-Цзы, тот засмеялся и сказал:
- Будьте, как это дерево. Если вы полезны – вас срубят, вы станете мебелью в чьем-нибудь доме. Будьте, как это дерево, абсолютно бесполезны, и тогда вы вырастите в могучее дерево, и тысячи людей найдут тень под вашими ветвями.
А затем пояснил им:
- Будьте последними. Не пытайтесь доказать свою значимость. Вращайтесь в этом мире незаметно, чтобы наслаждаться, а не быть полезной вещью. Жизнь – это поэзия, а не товар на рынке.
Я не говорю, что вы не должны делать ничего полезного. Делайте полезные вещи, но помните, что настоящий опыт и величайший экстаз приходят от бесполезного. Через поэзию, любовь, медитацию.
Если вы способны делать то, что нельзя свести к товару, то величайшая радость наполнит ваше сердце. Будьте собой и делайте свое дело. Вы здесь не для того, чтобы вас продавали”.
