Grand prismatic spring - большой призматический источник, третий по величине в мире и самый большой в США геотермальный источник. Его особенность заключается в нереально ярких и красивых цветах.
Яркие цвета источника — это результат жизнедеятельности пигментированных бактерий, существующих по краям источника с богатой минералами водой. Цвет бактерий изменяется от зелёного до красного и зависит от соотношения хлорофилла и каротиноидов в их популяции. В летний период бактерии становятся оранжево-красными, а в зимний — как правило тёмно-зелёными. Центр источника стерилен из-за высокой температуры воды.

Grand prismatic spring is a large prismatic spring, the third largest in the world and the largest geothermal spring in the USA. Its feature is unrealistically bright and beautiful colors.
Bright colors of the source are the result of the vital activity of pigmented bacteria that exist along the edges of the source with mineral-rich water. The color of bacteria varies from green to red and depends on the ratio of chlorophyll to carotenoids in their population. In the summer, the bacteria become orange-red, and in the winter - usually dark green. The source center is sterile due to the high temperature of the water.
