Ассистент очень быстро подходит сзади и вонзает в него 80-сантиметровую рапиру куда-то в область почек. Гробовая тишина. Студенты и преподаватели сидят с раскрытыми ртами, не в силах поверить своим глазам.
Сомнений нет: клинок прошел через тело, кончик торчит спереди. Самое удивительное — даже не невозмутимость Дажо, а то, что на его теле нет ни капли крови...»
Настоящее имя Дажо — Арнольд Геррит Хенске. Родился он 6 августа 1912 года в Роттердаме. Нол, как называли его друзья, увлекался рисованием и в 20 лет возглавил группу архитекторов в проектном бюро.
В детстве и юности с Нолом Хенске неоднократно происходили странные события. Так, однажды он написал портрет покойной тетки, которая всю жизнь прожила в Южной Африке и которую он никогда не видел. Он сумел изобразить ее с такой точностью, будто она ему позировала. Часто, просыпаясь по утрам, Арнольд с удивлением обнаруживал, что руки и простыни перепачканы краской, а в студии царит беспорядок. Он рисовал во сне неплохие картины, даже не просыпаясь и ничего не помня... «Переворот» в жизни Нола произошел на... 33-м году жизни. Именно тогда он понял, что его тело неуязвимо. Арнольд бросил работу и переехал в Амстердам, где бродил по кафе и барам и предлагал посетителям... зарезать себя. Скоро о нем говорил весь город.
Имя Арнольд Хенске поменял не в целях рекламы, а потому, что на эсперанто Мирин Дажо означает «чудесный», «удивительный». Он, как и многие современники, считал, что при помощи этого искусственного языка человечеству удастся преодолеть коммуникационные барьеры между народами.
Конечно, Дажо проверяли врачи, причем не раз. В конце мая 1947 года он продемонстрировал свои таланты в Цюрихском кантональном госпитале. Как обычно, Ми-рин разделся до талии. Когда ассистент пронзил рапирой сердце, легкие и почки, он, как обычно, не почувствовал боли и не проронил ни капли крови. Чтобы исключить возможность гипноза, было решено сделать рентген, но медики не знали, как доставить его до рентгеновского кабинета — ведь носилки не приспособлены к транспортировке людей, пронзенных рапирами. Дажо успокоил их, сказав, что сам дойдет куда нужно — с рапирой естественно. Снимки исключили всякие сомнения: клинок прошел через несколько жизненно важных органов,но не причинил никаких повреждений.

Of course, Dajo was checked by doctors, and more than once. At the end of May 1947, he demonstrated his talents at the Zurich Cantonal Hospital. As usual, Mirin undressed to the waist. When the assistant pierced the heart, lungs and kidneys with the rapier, he, as usual, did not feel pain and did not utter a drop of blood. To exclude the possibility of hypnosis, it was decided to take an X-ray, but the doctors did not know how to get it to the X-ray room - because the stretchers are not suitable for transporting people pierced by rapiers. But when the rapier was carefully removed from the body of Dajo, there were barely noticeable spots on the skin: at the entrance and exit of the blade. Tiny wounds were washed and treated, although Mirin Dajo said that there was no need for this - he did not face an infection. Then he “finished off” the most respected public, going down to the park and running several laps with a rapier.
