Книга/фильм в стиле психотриллера-притчи "Кофейный астрал - Чайный астрал".
Первая линия: Опиумная курильня в трущобах Нанкина, которой управляет старый китаец по прозвищу Дядюшка Карп, который на самом деле глава местной Триады. 1937й год, самое начало японского террора. Дядюшка Карп в дневнике описывает события в городе. Кроме того он пишет, что ему регулярно снится юноша в очках, сидящий за столом и то читающий его дневник, то пишущий что-то, то курящий опиумную трубку. В конце дневник обрывается, а страницы забрызганы бурыми пятнами.
Вторая линия: в наши дни студент одного из университетов Нанкина пишет эссе по теме террора и использует дневник Дядюшки Карпа. Но события, описанные в дневнике столь ужасны, а в части снов Дядюшки еще и крайне странны, что студент начинает курить опиум. И начинает терять понимание где дневник, а где реальность. И единственно как ему удается понять где он, а где дядюшка Карп - студент предпочитает кофе, а старый китаец чай. В самом конце студент очухивается от опиумного дурмана и видит как в курильню врываются солдаты Микадо с целью произвести зачистку.
