Montuno в свою очередь уже делится внутри по-своему. Секцию montuno образуют коро-прегон + соло всякие + estribillo (букв. «писанина»).
Коро-прегон тоже делится на части. Припев (коро, вопросительная часть) называется diana (название из румбы). Ответ - soneo. Если же вокалист распевает коро сперва сам, а затем вступает хор, это назыввается guia (гийя). В коро-прегоне части «вопрос-ответ» могут соединяться между собой проигрышами (mambo) или сольными вставками.

Bomba может быть как во вступлении, так и в секции montuno. Типична для тимбы. Когда остается перкуссия, монтуно и бас играет характерные протяжные звуки техникой «слай».
