Пришло время, друзья, поделиться очередной порцией душевной музыки. На этот раз поставлю The Spinners — американскую вокальную ритм-н-блюз и соул-группу, чей расцвет пришелся на 1960-70-е годы — ярких представителей «филадельфийского соула».
Музыкальный сайт Allmusic характеризует Spinners как «щеголеватую R&B-группу, чьи искусно оркестрованные аранжировки сделали их в 1970-е годы мэтрами соула. По свидетельству сайта, The Spinners были величайшей соул-группой начала 1970-х, музыка которой определила пышный, соблазнительный звук филадельфийского соула. А сформировался квинтет в 1957 году в пригороде Детройта, когда его участники — в то время старшеклассники — жили под одной крышей в социальном жилье.
Для филадельфийской школы (представители выпускались на фирмах грамзаписи Philadelphia International Records и Philly Groove Records — отсюда название) характерны легкие, едва намеченные звуком тарелок ритмы, роскошные аранжировки вокала и сладкие мелодии в медленном и среднем ритме. Мягкий «филадельфийский соул» (не путать с сыром) отличают усложнённые вокальные аранжировки и введение элементов фанка и диско.

It's time, friends, to share another portion of soulful music. This time I’ll put The Spinners - the American vocal rhythm and blues and soul group, whose heyday came in the 1960s and 70s - prominent representatives of the Philadelphia soul.
The Allmusic music site characterizes Spinners as “a dapper R&B band whose expertly orchestrated arrangements made them masters of soul in the 1970s. According to the site, The Spinners was the greatest soul band of the early 1970s, whose music defined the lush, seductive sound of the Philadelphia soul. And the quintet was formed in 1957 in the suburbs of Detroit, when its participants - then high school students - lived under the same roof in social housing.
For the Philadelphia school (representatives were released at the record companies Philadelphia International Records and Philly Groove Records - the name comes from here), light rhythms, luxurious arrangements of vocals and sweet melodies in slow and medium rhythms are characteristic of barely outlined cymbals. Soft “Philadelphia soul” (not to be confused with cheese) is distinguished by complicated vocal arrangements and the introduction of funk and disco elements.
