Во время пыток, истязаний и расстрелов в концлагере Яновский на окраине Львова всегда играла музыка. Оркестр состоял из заключённых, они играли одну и ту же мелодию — «Танго смерти». В числе оркестрантов были — профессор Львовской государственной консерватории Штрикс, дирижёр оперы Мунд и другие известные еврейские музыканты.
Фото оркестрантов было одним из обвинительных документов на Нюрнбергском процессе, во время повешения оркестру приказывали исполнять танго, во время пыток — фокстрот, а иногда вечером оркестрантов заставляли играть под окнами начальника лагеря по несколько часов кряду.
Накануне освобождения Львова частями Советской Армии, немцы выстроили круг из 40 человек из оркестра. Охрана лагеря окружила музыкантов плотным кольцом и приказала играть. Сначала был казнён дирижёр оркестра Мунд, дальше по приказу коменданта каждый оркестрант выходил в центр круга, клал свой инструмент на землю, раздевался догола после чего был казнён выстрелом в голову.
Попытка восстановить звучание этого «Танго смерти» не увенчалась успехом — ноты не сохранились, а несколько уцелевших узников при попытке воспроизвести мелодию по памяти впадали в транс или заходились в рыданиях.
Предполагают, что это могло быть популярное польское танго «Та остатня недзеля», с русскими словами ставшее песней «Утомлённое солнце».

An attempt to restore the sound of this “Tango of Death” was unsuccessful - the notes weren’t preserved, and several surviving prisoners fell into a trance or sobbed when trying to play a melody from memory.
It is believed that this could be the popular Polish tango “That Remainder of the Week”, with Russian words becoming the song “Burnt Sun”.
