Сегодня в первой половине дня сидел на секции М. Табани "Изучение островов: ре-презентация Океании внутри и за ее пределами". Все доклады были интересными, но я хочу остановиться на докладе самого Табани о фильмах, посвященных движению Джона Фрума. Первый Д. Аттенборо, в котором культ изображался как курьез. А потом пошли фильмы конца 90-х, начала 2000-х. В одном из них Айзек Ван рассказывает, что современное воплощение Фрума - это Бен Ладен. Америка перестала быть достаточно духовной, а Усама ее разворачивает в нужном направлении. Еще один фильм, тоже американского производства, о том, что американцы и Госдепартамент недооценивают движение Джона Фрума, и что последователи карго-культа могут отвернуться от почитания Америки, что для США неприемлемо. Еще был фильм о человеке (тоже из США), который сам решил стать Джоном Фрумом. Он привез на Танну несколько контейнеров с едой и медикаментами, его встречал в аэропорту Айзек Ван, как водится с эполетами и аксельбантами... Но потом в новоиспеченном Джоне Фруме разочаровываются. В общем, очень интересный разворот темы. Вывод Табани: при таком интересе со стороны американских режиссеров и "видео-консьюмеризме", который уже проник в Вануату, говорить об исчезновении карго-культов не приходится, сами европейцы их подстегивают.
В нашей секции был очень интересный доклад про японцев, живших в Новой Каледонии в 1940 году. Их лишили гражданства, депортировали в Австралию, хотя 5 мужчин из 30 или 40 человек (это всего людей в диаспоре) пошли служить в армию и воевали против японцев. Очень похоже на депортацию наших поволжских немцев в 1941. Просто до деталей.
Вечером был ужин. Сидел рядом с Моско. Он рассказал, что его родители были православными (sic!) откуда-то из-под Праги. Его отец в 30 лет записался на курсы русского языка и выучил его! Считает, что его фамилия - сокращение от Московайт. Еще рассказал, что в Австралии антропологов считают лузерами, потому что примерно половина или чуть больше людей с антропологическим образованием работает в судебных инстанциях, по делам, связанны с возвращением земли аборигенам. Изредка случаются процессы, в которых антропологи предстают не с лучшей стороны. Пресса эти случаи раздувает. В итоге, в сознании австралийцев, антропологи - обманщики, бестолочь и дармоеды. А Новой Зеландии ситуация строго обратная. Вся маорийская знать выучилась на антропологов в Англии. Антропологи здесь - самые крутые и продвинутые ребята. Быть антропологом - значит состояться в жизни. Вот такие дела: антиподы - а все по-разному.
