У ребят украли велосипед и они вызвали полицию.
Полиция приехала и их (безоружных) расстреляла.

В Северной Каролине семья попросила полицию проведать престарелого родственника, ветерана войны в Корее, который восстанавливался после операции на сердце. Полиция поехала к нему домой (_в полночь!_ - хотя вызов поступил днем), а когда он не открыл, так как спал, взломали дверь. Проснувшись, он схватил оружие, - они его пристрелили.

Мать позвонила в полицию, сказала что ее психически больной сын травмирует сам себя и нуждается в помощи. Когда они прибыли, она снова предупредила о его отклонениях, и тут показался он с отверткой в руках. Полиция запаниковала, ну и пристрелила балбеса на всякий случай на глазах у матери (вместо того, чтобы, к примеру, попросить ее поговорить с сыном, или хотя бы вместо огнестрела использовать электрошок).
Кстати, от стука в дверь полиции до стрельбы __прошло секунд 20-25.__ (Видео по ссылке.)

The police went to his house (_ at midnight! _ - although the call came in during the day), and when he did not open, as he was sleeping, they broke open the door. Waking up, he grabbed a weapon - they shot him.

Mother called the police, said that her mentally ill son injures himself and needs help. When they arrived, she again warned of his deviations, and then he appeared with a screwdriver in his hands. The police panicked, and shot the booby just in case in front of her mother (instead of, for example, asking her to speak with her son, or at least using an electric shock instead of a gunshot).
