Собирали мы тут с Марфой ракушки на берегу. Острое чувство детского счастья, можно часами сидеть на корточках, копаясь в кучах останков морских обитателей, вынесенных прибоем. И, конечно, вспоминается Даррелл, его книги о детстве на знойном Корфу с бесконечными оливковыми рощами, теплым морем. Его жажда изучения живой природы настолько всепоглощающая, что ею нельзя не заразиться. У нас дома стоит собрание сочинений Дж. Даррелла, ждёт, пока девочки подрастут. А пока мы с Марфой собираем раковины и пытаемся выговорить их названия, ей вполне доступна такая наука.
Вот туго закрученная turritella communis, Марфа почему-то называет ее "гроза".
Вот растопырив "пальцы" выглядывает aporrhais pespelecani (пеликанья лапа).
А это створки устриц Ostrea, обточенные морем.
А на створке мидии заселилась колония морских желудей (balanomorpha).
Вот створки разных двухстворчатых моллюсков: охристые Acanthocardia tuberculata, а это серые Cerastoderma , а вот полосатые mactra.
А тут малыш Acra noae.
А самый любимый Марфой розовый моллюск так и остался нами неопознанный.

Here Martha and I collected seashells on the shore. A keen sense of childhood happiness, you can squat for hours, delving into the heaps of the remains of marine life brought by the surf. And, of course, I recall Darrell, his books about childhood on sultry Corfu with endless olive groves, a warm sea. His thirst for studying wildlife is so all-consuming that you cannot but catch it.
