Eli, Eli, lama sabaktani!/Боже, Боже! Почему ты оставил меня?/ Даже жить больше не хочется! Сегодня русские бомбили Гельсингфорс и другие финские города. Одновременно они вторгаются на Карельский перешеек, но там, походе, удар отбили. Мы долго колебались между надеждой и худшими опасениями, но когда финская делегация уехала из Москвы, ни о чем не договорившись, неожиданно все стало спокойно и тихо. Многие из эвакуированных из Гельсингфорса вернулись. И вдруг русские неожиданно заявляют, что финны открыли стрельбу на границе, финны отрицают. Но русские хотят драться — и теперь они начали, несмотря на то, что против них всё мировое общественное мнение.
Я не могу припомнить такого черного дня!.. Что будет, какая судьба ожидает нас? И бедную Финляндию?
7 декабря
Слушайте, время и мир! Финляндия сопротивляется России беспримерно. Но русские, ожесточившись, начали вчера применять газы. Ожесточенные бои ведутся на Карельском перешейке и вокруг Петсамо (сейчас — Печенга, прим. ред.). Воздушных бомбардировок было из-за погоды немного. У русских очень плохое снаряжение, и в снежной пурге им приходится тяжко. Они несут большие потери, а весь мир восхищается финской обороной. Но гражданскому населению, бегущему на севере через шведскую границу, приходится туго. Но здесь, в Швеции, народ дико хочет помогать Финляндии. Одежда и деньги собираются во множестве и отправляются туда. Сама я залезла вчера на чердак и вытащила все, что могла, в том числе «кучерский тулуп» Стуре (Стуре Линдгрен, — муж Астрид Линдгрен, прим. ред.) и кошмарную кофту мамы (свекрови). Хотя, конечно, финнам и там очень досталось — и без маминой кофты.
И также сильны настроения в пользу Финляндии по всему миру. Только в Германии молчат. Но «брат по оси» — Италия — негодует на СССР больше всех. На днях 21 итальянский самолет приземлился в Бромме (стокгольмский аэропорт) с тем, чтобы проследовать дальше в Финляндию. Хотя про этого газетам писать нельзя. Англия и Америка тоже будет поставлять оружие в кредит. Америка намерена также списать Финляндии военные долги. Но Финляндия наверняка ждет, что мир пойдет ей на встречу и сделает что-то более позитивное. И в наших газетах пишут, что и нам надо идти, хотя напрямую этого и не говорится. Выступить готовы многие шведские добровольцы...
13 декабря... Утверждают, что отряд в 5 000 человек отправился из Швеции на помощь Финляндии. Надеюсь, это правда. Вчера я была настолько подавлена, что обратилась к Слову Божью и нашла в Библии такой ответ: «... для Господа нетрудно спасти через многих, или немногих».
Ах, если бы так было! Пока Финляндия борется, но, что будет дальше. Заседала Лига Наций, но результат слабый.
