Four Russian students were involved to the one of the most impressive nightlife places in Hamburg. Datscha party is connected to the bar in Saint-Petersburg called the same name and founded by the lady from Hamburg. Anastasia, Kirill, Ann and Elena got their own impressions and made interviews during the night so the story about the Datscha project party is told by four different voices of youngsters.
Kirill: Seventeen years ago emigrants from Russia met each other at the German courses. They started to make parties for themselves and the Datscha project was grown from those home parties. Once upon a time the guys decided to organize a global event dedicated to Russian lifestyle and invite all their friends. It was an attempt of breaking silly stereotypes about current Russian lifestyle. The organizers Alexander Mirimov, Vlad Estrin and Rodion Levin were really annoyed of the German representation of Russia like Vodka, Matreshka, Balalaika. It was a shame to understand that foreign people associated Russia just with tipsy Eltsin conducting the orchestra, the Vj of the party Vlad Estrin says irritably. He is a web-developer and designer and he is fond of making videos during the party sitting in front of the laptop and finding the best way to illustrate the songs.
Anastasia: The founders of Datscha project play on the contraries. One of these zests is the name Übel und gefährlich it means nasty and dangerous. Which is an exact opposite of the atmosphere of the place.
Two enormous halls are decorated in the mixture os stiles: gothic, punk and roccoco are complementing each other. The pleasant thing about nightclubs in Europe (and in particular Übel und gefährlich) is that there is prohibited to smoke on the dancefloor and at the bar. There is a special smoking-area. So the air is of course not as fresh as in the mountains (there are about 200 dancing person inside) but you CAN breath, and that is wonderfull.

You come there at 12 a.m. or something, than drink a shot, two, three (or more), so that this quantity would be enough to rock your body. Elena: Imagine a mixture of sounds: incendiary Serbian instruments, charming Indian tunes, sonorous Russian rhythms and mix of the pop, funk and rock. That is what the Datscha-projects DJs Rodion Levin and Andrey Lidohover are treating the guests. They were the first to present famous groups from St. Petersburg Leningrad, N.O.M. and Pyatnizza to the Hamburgs audience. Then through the years of development of the project the DJs made the club a united platform of Eastern European music. We just make an accent on mixing the modern styles, Andrey and Rodion said. For example, on this first October party we came to, they decided to make a psychedelic-party with the main course held on the Balkan beat which is not a new-wave, but still very popular. On the question What does force you to continue doing it, they confidently answer that it is the responsibility for their audience: Despite of little tiredness that we want to give them drive and energy. Furthermore they feel the importance of their work. Rodion and Andrey say that now it is the second generation who attends the Datscha: Today here we see grown up children of the people who came to our first parties.
Kirill: Datchas authors staked the life music they often bring funny groups like Markscheider Kunst. Alexander seemed to be a little embarrassed by the attention of journalists he tried to find more appropriate expressions to describe their idea to make a home party for both Germans and Russians dedicated to modern Eastern-European culture. It is not just a party for Russians, it is an international place where everyone can feel free like a guest in a democratic place.
Ann: The student girl from Hamburg troubled to remember what Datscha is. We moved away to a silent place. She suggested the different varieties, but she did not know exactly what the datscha was. May be a music style? The girl seemed to be amazed when I told her about country house, potatoes, spade and seedlings.
The students from Low Colledge of Hamburg's University Julia and Marica were preening themselves in front of the mirror. It is not their first time at this party. But Marica didn't know what Datscha meant. The girl was surprised when Julia started explaining that Datscha is a holiday house. How could you didn't know it? Julia asked her friend.
Anastasia: When visiting a new place, everything really does matter. For instance, friendly staff and visitors in the club create a whole nice image.
Benny. A barmen originally from Burkina-Faso has been working for five years for the Datscha project. Looking like a very welcoming guy, he enjoys the fact that thousands of people that he meets at the other side of the bar counter open their souls to him. They don`t ever pretend having a long-term friendship with Benny, but for one night he becomes a real friend for them.
I have learnt a lot about mentalities of different nations. For example, to my mind, when Germans drink they are becoming very calm, smiling and sweet-talking. On the contrary, Turkish people are aggressive and (Benny looked a bit confused) you know, they disturb women. I mean really disturb, they are trying to talk or touch without asking girl if she wants it. The Russians, as Benny says, in most cases stay happy and satisfied, but sometimes they get aggressive as well.
Oh, and that`s Ira, the young girl appears from the staff-door. She is skinny and pretty. We`re saying hello to each other and then Ira adresses me in a clear Russian. It appeared to be that she is originally from Pskov, a small russian city. She has got married and somehow moved to Germany.
Kirill: After the interview with Vlad I go to the bar. It is like a long deck for a drunken sailor who is going to face the storm. I feel something like this. Ira mixes me a Cuba Libre rum with cola and ice and advises to buy drinking coins. You pay just 10 euros and get 10 colorful pieces of plastic to feel a hangover the next day, but absolutely relaxed this time. One coin one shot, two coins long drink to enjoy the taste.
We have the second place among the parties for consuming alcohol, so to say if the groom isnt drunk the guests arent in mood, Vlad smiles. Why is the second? Because some people dont need to be drunk to rock the party.
Anastasia: The most popular thing drinking on the Datscha-project parties is vodka + red-bull. And it is not surprising. The organizers always try to create the national image of Russia in all aspects: not only a special name Datscha, but music, video, atmosphere, and alcohol as well. For Europeans it`s hard (or maybe they don`t just go for it) to drink the pure vodka, so they mix it with the energy drink).

He was moving in the absolutely-non-tense manner. It seemed like Bob Marley`s Don`t worry in the mixture with the RHCP`s Hump de Bump was playing in his head all night long. He answered the question Why are you here?: Because of the rhythm of the place. Tutz-tutz-tutz, do you know what I mean? You won`t find such a beat anywhere! Believe me.
What is so special about this Red dancer? He is the one of those unique features which you won`t find in any other place. He adorns the whole party during the night.
Kirill: I am looking around sitting in front of the bar and making notes about the public. The Leningrad bands song is remixing by Dj Rodion and the hoarse voice of the singer is consonant to the energetic mood of the party participants. It has no beginning and its like a never-ending story, Vlad told me about the Datscha project in general before the party had started but it is relevant particularly too, - Vlad is about 40 years old, he is married and his son is 19. Vlad doesnt look like a typical party-monster, he seemed to be intelligent and polite, and we never forget about the irony thats the reason I present pieces of old Soviet cinema. They form the appearance of Russia but it should not be exaggerated. It is your turn not to forget that it is just a party.
The music starts to be an extremely provocative: the sounds of the Russian patriotic songs appeared. German visitors were dancing like it was their national song.
